On the 17th, the legislation council of Yuan has drafted an amendment to the law of same sex marriage causing dissatisfaction among groups. On the same day, there were protesters at the legislative council who voiced their opinion for a change in the ammendment. At the scene, there were many couples that carried rainbow flags as well as celebrities who were present to voice out their opinion. Although not everyone have the same view, their speeches showed their solitary support becoming Taiwan's most popular topic these past few days. Among them were Chicken Drumstick Girl, Jam Hsiao, Aaron Yan, Rainie Yang, Zhang Shu Hao who showed their support for the movement. There are now 3 additional supporters for the movement, namely the Blue Gate Crossing Team of Director Yee Chih-Yan, Chen Bolin and Gui Lun Mei.
In the wee hours of the morning, Director Yee Chih-Yan posted a picture showing his support. The picture was accompanied by the text "Sincere blessing, must be one that is free from fear." He was not in the picture but it was the actors whom he directed in the movie "Blue Gate Crossing". Both of them had a bright smile on their faces while holding up a sign that says "We support marriage equality # Change law 972" , a representation of them standing up for the rights of marriage equality and supporting the change in the amendment. This courageous move has been praised by netizens with many leaving messages such as "happy and moved," "Thank you, you guys are great", "Tears are rolling", "Thank you from Meng Ke Rou, Zhang Shihao (Their character's name in "Blue Gate Crossing") for the blessing!"
Chenbolinfan Notes :
When I saw this picture, I was touched by its deep meaning. Director Yee discussed the sensitive issue in his Blue Gate Crossing movie where Gui Lun Mei's character was conflicted by loving her best friend of the same sex. In the movie, she did not have the courage to voice out how she felt for fear of rejection, venting her frustrations only to a school wall through her scribblings and telling her secrets to the boy who had a crush on her (Chen Bolin's character, Zhang Shih-Hao).
I seriously do not understand why governments would interfere with issues like this. If they choose to continue this, there will be many young teenagers who will suppress their feelings and the repercussions of that will lead to many social problems. Loving someone is irregardless of skin color or gender. Ultimately, we do not choose who we fall in love with and governments is the least of ALL people who should decide who we should or should not spend the rest of our lives with.
Thanks to the Blue Gate Crossing Team for supporting the movement.
