When he was in high school because he looks like Takeshi Kaneshiro, he took part in a Chinese Variety show that looks for people who resembles an artist. The show was called 《紅白勝利》English : Red Versus White.

In 2002, he was casted in Blue Gate along with Gui Lun Mei. I love Blue Gate Crossing. I love its simple storyline and I thought Yee Chih-Yen directed it so beautifully. I don't remember having much thoughts about Bolin when I first watched it. But after becoming his fan some years later, I rewatched it again. It's like how he puts it, that he has his 17 year old self captured permanently on film. Because he really wasn't acting. It was him through and through. From his shy gaze at a girl he has a crush on to his awkwardness of not knowing where to put his hands, it was 100% him.
The next seven years, Bolin acted in about 20 Movies between Hong Kong, Japan and China. He even was part of a pop group called HC3 with 柯有伦 and 张博涵 . He was also in very public relationship with Mandy Lieu when he was in Hong Kong.
I watched all his movies except for one. I can only say he needed those times, those movies and those heartbreaks... He learned Cantonese and Japanese , he learned how to start from Zero , in unfamiliar cultures and acting environments. He fell in love, he got his heart broken, but with each step forward (or backwards), it defined him to be the person we all love today.
Sometimes, you have to lose yourself before you can find yourself.
Bolin won an award for his portrayal of "Li Da Ren" in the Taiwanese Classic "In Time With You" beside Ariel Lin. He plays someone who loves the lead actress for years but never let her know how he feels. He watched over her and go through bad times with her, silently being her guardian angel without ever expecting any outcome of the relationship.
Bolin won the prestigious Golden Bell Award (Taiwan's equivalent of the Emmy) for Best Leading Actor for his natural acting that touched the hearts of every girl in Asia. During the ceremony before they announced the results, Bolin was clearly the crowd's favourite as everyone was already shouting his name. The host , Janet Hsieh, also playfully sat on his lap and squeeze her cheeks against his face prompting him to blush in embarrassment. For the next few years until now, fans still call him "Li Da Ren" and he has become the "ideal boyfriend" in every girl's heart.
Because of In Time With you, his world has changed and in that year, overnight, we see him change from a boy to a man. I think fame changed him a little. Although his personality remained the same , he was still happy, positive, outgoing, caring and generous.. but fame made him think differently and made him mature.
He chose his words better and thinks very carefully before he speaks. He became more classy and although he still dresses in torn shirts, he gives out a different feeling to his fans..
As his fan, we were very delighted to watch him choose his work more wisely, make better decisions and carry himself truly like a A-listed star.
