Gui Lun Mei and Bolin  knew each other from their first movie blue gate crossing and has subsequently fostered an intimacy that is closer than that of family members. After Blue Gate crossing,  they both went into their separate ways displaying their talents in the movie industry, working hard to build their careers but always maintaining their close relationship with one another. In past interviews, she has revealed once that their chemistry has started even before filming together. In those years, whenever the director requested for volunteers during training, both of them will put up their hand at the same time. Their chemistry was finally noticed by the director and he chose them for the film.

On this friendship, Gwei Lin Mei has this evaluation. In her eyes, Chen Bolin is very pure, he has always reminded her of their time together that fateful summer with their happy faces laughing in the sunshine.
