He begins a life in "exile" on his own.

 

In Hunan TV's third season of <Divas Hit the Road> (shortform DHTR3), Chen Bolin is cool and handsome, calm and comfortable even in "exile". From time to time, he will spout witty quips that have attracted a lot of fans to him. On camera, CBL is very nearly perfect. Many have asked him if he has any idol baggage. When he accepted <Headline Entertainment>'s interview, he finally came clean.

DIVA'S REWARDS - "No plans, no script. Just an experience."

 

In <DHTR3>, CBL is extremely popular. Especially on his one-man exile, his strong survival ability and calm and comfortable way of dealing with things as well as his enjoyment of the process has garnered him innumerable fans.

 

Why did he agree to take part in a reality show? Bolin says the past few years has been about making movies, playing characters, having a script. He had never reflected on whether the process had been fun. "<DHTR3> has a great impact on me. No planners, no script, everyone is just experiencing the journey. It goes beyond filming, more than a variety show. More importantly, it has made me gain a different understanding of myself. Until now, I will always recall the scenery and the things that happened during the making of <DHTR>.

 

Regarding the rewards from the trip, CBL says he does not want to brag and only has words of gratitude. What did he get out of it? "I feel that the trip has allowed me, at any moment, to recall what decisions were made at that time; what scenery I had seen, that's enough."

 

WITTY QUIPS AGAIN

"Earning money is easy, a sense of accomplishment and honour is a luxury"

 

In the show, CBL used very little of the money provided by the show and this had led to a more colourful experience for him. Very exciting and showed his ability in meticulous planning and accounting.

 

He had been praised for knowing how to enjoy life, CBL is embarassed and quickly explains that shouldn't everyone's life be 100% like this, "Depending on your condition and ability at the time, make an adjustment. When you only have that much money, then choose what you want to do most. Under limited resources, complete these things."

 

On his attitude toward money, CBL has his own unique idea, "If money is just a desire, it becomes easily attainable. The most hardest thing to achieve is satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment."

 

In CBL's view, earning money is relatively easy to do, "When you work, you'll get money. Whatever you do, you'll get money. However, not everything you do will give you a sense of achievement so accomplishment and honour is a luxury." Unintentionally, CBL became the king of quips again.

 

IDOL BAGGAGE

"There are still some apprehension, still can't go out wearing pajamas."

 

In <DHTR3>'s days on the road, CBL maintains his stylish looks, especially his various extremely cool headbands. At several different occasions, he was asked about his idol baggage. CBL will reply that he is not an idol so there is no baggage.

 

However, facing the cameras 24/7, CBL reveals the truth to <Headline Entertainment>, "There is a little idol baggage, no matter what. When cameras are pointed at you, you cannot be wearing pajamas outside, there'll still be some apprehension."

 

However, CBL confesses when there are cameras on him 24/7, it was very hard to hide, "It was really very real. I don't know about others but I'm 100% invested in it. Very natural, nobody planned it."

 

FIRST COSTUME SHOW

"Returning to TV after 6 years, costume show is a challenge."

 

Recently, CBL and Jing Tian has started shooting <The King of Blaze>. This is CBL's return to the small screen after 6 years and is also his first costume drama on TV.

 

<The King of Blaze> is adapted from Taiwan's "comic queen" You Sulan's works. In it, CBL plays the very aloof Fire King Zhong Tian who is a control freak with mental hangups. In his journey through human love and belonging, he will traverse light years and put his self-restraint to the test.

 

CBL frankly says <The King of Blaze> script is very rich in detail with the costume style as well as the dialogue which he highly anticipates. It is a great challenge. "To me especially, I'm very interested in science fiction. The character was written as originating from the Magellan galaxy. There are elements of science fiction in it, so I accepted the role."

 

Costume drama audiences have seen a lot of frozen faces on the actors until the point where many believe that costume dramas do not require acting skills. CBL is very curious about this point of view, "How could it be? I feel that acting in a costume role requires a lot of skill. Modern dramas are very close to real life, just being natural is enough. Costume dramas are very far (from real life). The lines and performance style needs to be digested and understood. I feel that it requires more acting skills."
